However, it resets at midnight not 20 hours anymore and shares a cooldown with Cataclysm transmutes, including Truegold. I had used my daily Truegold transmute and was not able to make an epic gem for this quest. Seems kinda stupid when Wrath epics aren't really in demand these days. It hasn't been marked as obsolete, it's just a little too deeply bugged for the moment, but I was able to provide enough details of my plight re: being a completionist and profession collector that a GM went ahead and completed the quest for me, granting that toon the Cardinal Ruby transmute. TL;DR: yes the quest is bugged out of its proverbial codified skull because of double Dalaran shenanigans, but opening an in-game ticket and being just a little bit politely stubborn about it can very much solve the conundrum.
Comment by FrostWolf It appears that this quest has been fixed. I was able to get it on two of my alchemists that were past Northrend alchemy today. The quest wasn't visible to them before. Cardinal Ruby. Comment by Dragnis The npc you get the quest to transmute these from is Linzy Blackbolt located in Alch shop in Dalaran. She will teach you how to cut all the gems for gold of course but this one is quested.
You must make 5 epic gems and there is a 20hr cool down on these transmute. So it will take almost 5 days or hours for people who got to be specific about it. You do require skill because it takes that skill to transmute and get the quest.
Lowest level is lv 65 and she will accept any of the epic 5 epic gems Ametrine, Eye of Zul, King Amber, Dreadstone, and Majestic Zircon I don't believe she cares if you duplicate the same transmute or not. Like make Eye of Zul 2x in a row it will still most likely count according to her text. FYI great way to earn gold for Alch peeps out there yeaaa lol.
